What is Gaming?

The word “Gaming” comes from the word game. But what is a game?

Games were invented a long time ago and it was considered an interactive entertainment activity. In modern society we can find some old games like chess and checkers, and in the case of checkers, it was invented in the 12th century.

Currently the term “Gaming” is more used for virtual games. The word Gaming now refers more to the activity of playing video games, whether on consoles, tablets, computers or mobile phones (which is the most common way to play), or another electronic device. This activity can be practiced online or offline. There are people who play alone, but there are also people who play with or against other people. Many people play casually for fun and others who take it seriously are professional gamers.

How does gaming influence many people's lives?

Electronic games have a good influence in today’s society, as they can be considered a form of “social escape”, in this form, they have a great influence on people, this influence is positive on the learning function and development of cognitive stimulation, the influence it can be negative such as addictions and health problems such as a sedentary lifestyle, physical and psychological fatigue.

Parents often see animators (youtubers, streamers, etc.) and video games as something bad, because they only see bad things in the news and start to have the idea that games and playing are bad things and that animators and games are encouraging young people to be violent.

Sometimes people who have a life related to video games are insulted, humiliated or in certain cases attacked for no reason.

Gaming covers a huge area of ​​work. From being a casual player to being a professional player, animator, sound and light technician for events, photo and video editor, marketing, team manager, etc…

How can gaming and school come together?

Many parents don’t trust game consoles and don’t want to have one at home for fear that it will negatively affect their children’s school performance. But, the benefits of video games include improving concentration, creativity, memory, language and teamwork.

The video game industry lost its “innocence” a long time ago. Nowadays, it is a developed sector, admired for its technical muscle, capacity for innovation and its well-developed business vision.

Game-based learning gives students the opportunity to practice, increases their motivation and makes studying fun for children. Teachers can give students the freedom to come up with solutions and ideas to increase their level of creativity.
